2. Scope of application

These terms and conditions apply to the Youth Hostels in Belgium managed by the non-profit organization Les Auberges de Jeunesse.

3. Rates and prices

The prices indicated on the www.lesaubergesdejeunesse.be website , in price offers and contracts are in euros, all taxes included. Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl reserves the right to modify its prices at any time. Reservations confirmed by Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl will nevertheless be invoiced at the rates in force at the time the reservation was made.

Discounted rates for annual members are only available by booking directly through Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl or Hostelling International. If you book at a member price, you will be required to provide proof of membership or purchase membership on arrival. If you do not hold or purchase annual membership, you will be required to pay the published price at the time of booking.

4. Make a reservation

Reservations are accepted for individuals (up to 9 people) and groups (10 people or more) for stays of up to 6 consecutive nights. All reservations must be confirmed in writing by Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl.

Confirmation guarantees that the service has been reserved for the customer. A group booking has a designated group manager who will be responsible for making and supervising the booking, and will have financial and legal responsibility for the group's stay.

5. Payment and security

All amounts must be paid in euros. For online bookings, payment is made securely by credit or debit card via the Youth Hostels vzw payment system. The debit/credit card must be in the customer's name.

Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl never has access to its customers' credit card numbers during the entire payment process. Bank checks are not accepted as a method of payment.

Any sums not paid on their due date will automatically and without formal notice bear interest at the rate of 5% per annum. In addition, by the mere fact of non-payment of an invoice on its due date, the amount of the invoice will be automatically and without formal notice, increased by a contractual indemnity of 10% with a minimum of 50€ which will have to cover the administrative costs imposed on our association by the recorded delays in payment.

If a deposit has been paid, the balance must be paid by credit card on arrival athostel. All amounts, including those relating to cancellations and non-shows, are payable by the customer by the date indicated in the written correspondence.

6. Down payment

For group bookings (10 people or more), Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl will require payment of a deposit equivalent to 50% of the booking amount, by means of a bank transfer payable by the date specified on the contract at the latest.

For bookings made less than 4 weeks before the arrival date, the full amount of the booking must be paid immediately to confirm the reservation.

In the event of failure to meet the deadline, Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl reserves the right to cancel the reservation and make the rooms/beds/spaces/rooms/meals available to a third party. In the event of cancellation, if a deposit in excess of the cancellation fee has been paid, the difference will be reimbursed, with the exception of bank transfer charges, which remain payable by the beneficiary.

7. Cancellations in general

Changes to reservations are treated as cancellations. The consumer does not have the right to cancel the purchase. However, it is possible to cancel the booking subject to compliance with the conditions set out in points a) and b) below.

Cancellations must be made in writing (by registered letter or e-mail). Cancellation fees are always due, whatever the reason. Refunds fromhostel will only be made by bank transfer.

a. Group cancellation

Any reduction of more than 10% in the services booked (number of people, nights or meals) is considered a partial cancellation and will incur the same charges. To limit cancellation charges, please notify us as soon as possible of any cancellation or change in the number of participants and/or services requested.

  • Cancellation between 60 and 100 days before arrival date: 10% of the amount of the cancelled nights.
  • Cancellation between 15 and 59 days prior to arrival date: 50% of the amount of the cancelled nights.
  • Cancellation between 8 and 14 days prior to arrival date: 75% of the amount of the cancelled nights and 50% of the amount of the cancelled meals and other services for the 1st day of the stay.
  • Cancellation less than 8 days before arrival: 100% of the cost of overnight stays and 50% of the cost of meals and other services booked for the entire stay.
  • Cancellation the day before or on the day of arrival: 100% of the cost of overnight stays and 75% of the cost of meals and other services booked for the entire stay.

b. Individual cancellations and non-shows

Cancellations made more than 24 hours before arrival are free of charge. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before arrival will incur a charge of 100% of the first night's stay.

In the event of a no-show, 100% of the first night will be charged. In the event of a stay of more than one night, subsequent nights will be automatically cancelled.

Refunds will only be made by our credit/debit card acquirer, namely Bank Card Company.

c. Cancellation by Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl

In the event of force majeure, which would make it impossible forhostel de Jeunesse to provide the services booked,hostel de Jeunesse reserves the right to cancel the booking, subject only to reimbursement of the sums paid.

Thehostel Youth Hostel will inform the customer as soon as possible and, if possible, will seek an alternative in another hostel Youth Hostel of the Youth Hostels asbl.

8. Confidentiality of customer data

Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl undertakes not to divulge customers' personal data to third parties. It will, however, be used by Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl to collect feedback on the stay.

9. Use of the website

Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl has paid the utmost attention to the security and confidentiality of transactions during the development of its online sales site. If, despite these technical protection measures, the information contained on the site and/or the data transmitted by the customer should be intercepted, decrypted, transmitted to third parties, altered, modified, deleted or used by third parties, it declines all responsibility for any direct or indirect consequences that may result.

Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl declines all responsibility for the direct or indirect consequences of problems linked to the accessibility or availability of the site, whatever the cause, particularly in the event of breakdowns or unavailability of Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl's computer systems or in the event of problems with telecommunication networks. Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl declines all responsibility for the direct or indirect consequences of problems linked to the incompatibility of the site with the customer's computer equipment, configuration or Internet connection, or in the event of the inability of the customer's equipment to render the information contained on the site and/or to transmit information relating to the customer. Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl declines all responsibility for the direct or indirect consequences of any damage caused to the customer's hardware and/or software configuration, as well as any loss of data resulting from :

  • Use of the site.
  • The use, for communication between Youth Hostels asbl and the customer, of electronic means of communication such as e-mail, which may contain defects or computer viruses.
  • Uploading data or programs from the site that may contain defects or computer viruses.

10. Liability

Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl can never be held responsible for damage, loss or theft of goods incurred by its customers during their stay, unless the damage results from a deliberate action or gross negligence on the part of Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl.

All guests staying at hostel de Jeunesse must comply with thehostel house rules (available on arrival athostel de Jeunesse), in particular :

  • smoking is prohibited in thehostel
  • it is forbidden to make noise on the floors after 10 p.m.
  • it is forbidden to drink alcohol on the floors
  • pets are not allowed, with the exception of guide dogs

The customer and all accompanying persons are jointly and severally liable for all damages occurring to Les Auberges de Jeunesse asbl and/or any third party, now and/or in the future as a direct or indirect result of default (imputable breach), understood in any event to include breaches of its Youth Hostel rules and/or unlawful acts committed by the customer and/or accompanying persons, as well as for all damages caused by a pet and/or any equipment and/or any matter within their ownership or supervision.

Any damage clearly attributed to an individual or group must be paid for immediately tohostel .

In the event of a serious breach by a customer and/or accompanying persons of the rules of life at hostel de Jeunesse or of the laws in force in Belgium, the director ofhostel de Jeunesse reserves the right to immediately expel one or more of these persons without reimbursement of any expenses incurred by the customer.

11. Modification of general terms and conditions

The general terms and conditions may be modified at any time. It is up to the user to consult them before any new transaction.

12. Applicable law and jurisdiction

These terms and conditions are governed by Belgian law. In the event of a dispute, the Courts of the judicial district of Brussels shall have sole jurisdiction.
