Every year, we enthusiastically take part in Say Hi for Peace! Find out how our youth hostels are committed to promoting peace and solidarity.
Launched in 2013 by HI USAthis campaign (formerly known as Sleep for Peace) highlights the key role of hostels in promoting cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. 🌍✨
Why do we do this? Because traveling is about meeting other cultures, learning to understand each other better and thus building a more peaceful and tolerant world. Since 2015, the initiative has been adopted by Hostelling International and now extends to over 32 countries! Beautiful proof that every little gesture counts. 🤝
Since 1933, our network of hostels in Belgium (Les Auberges de Jeunesse and Vlaamse Jeugdherbergen) have been working for a more caring world. Every year, we take an active part in Say Hi for Peace, a civic action supported by Hostelling International. 💪
👉 As Eleanor Roosevelt put it so well: "It's not enough to talk about peace. You have to believe in it. And it's not enough to believe in it. You have to work for it." So let's roll up our sleeves together! 🕊️
During the month of September 2023, Les Auberges de Jeunesse (Wallonia) and Vlaamse Jeugdherbergen (Flanders) have joined forces to celebrate the International Day of Peace by organizing a fundraising event in aid of BelRefugees.
📍 How to take part? ✅ From September 21 to 24, 2023, you could drop off clothes, hygiene products and small items at one of our 10 hostels in Belgium. ✅ Whether you were a guest, an employee or just a visitor, every donation counted! 🙌 ✅ Our communication channels relayed the initiative to make as many people as possible aware of the cause.
The turnout was incredibly positive, illustrating the strength of our community and the impact we can have together. 🏠❤️
At the end of the action, Mathilde from Auberges de Jeunesse and Maxine from Vlaamse Jeugdherbergen collected the donations and documented the whole process. They were able to talk to Michel, a volunteer with BelRefugees, who shared his motivations and the importance of their mission. It was an inspiring moment that reminds us that everyone can play a part in building a better world. ✨
