What if a game could help build a world with more solidarity? 🩵
In September, Les Auberges de Jeunesse is once again participating in the international “Say HI for Peace” campaign, led by Hostelling International. This year, the campaign invites us to break out the games, spend some time together, and above all… Play for Peace! 🎲♟️🏓
Since 2013, Say HI for Peace has brought together the hostels in the Hostelling International network around a shared vision: to promote peace and dialogue by creating opportunities for people to meet. The campaign is fully in line with the philosophy of youth hostels: to welcome guests, foster exchange, help people discover one another, and build connections that transcend differences.
Because peace isn’t built solely on a large scale. It also begins in the small moments of everyday life: a “Hi!” exchanged with a stranger, a conversation over a meal… or a game played by people who might never have met otherwise.
So this year, we decided to go along with it! 😉
Throughout the month of September, our hostels will be hosting their own game tournaments.
Chess, board games, cards, sports games… Each hostel chooses its own way to play and invites you to join in. Whether you’re a serious competitor, a casual player, or just curious about having a fun evening, you’re welcome to join us!
And because playing for peace also means playing for a good cause, a donation drive will be held at the various events. All proceeds will be donated to the non-profit organization Arc-en-Ciel, which has been working for 70 years to provide children and young people with access to active, educational, and high-quality recreational activities.
Its work is based, in particular, on solidarity, education, equal opportunity, and commitment —values that closely align with those we uphold in our hostels.

"Say HI for Peace" is much more than just an annual campaign. It’s an opportunity to remind ourselves of what youth hostels are all about: welcoming places where you can meet people from near and far, share experiences, and learn from one another.
This desire to build connections is at the heart of the mission of Hostelling International, whose network now includes more than 2,300 hostels around the world.
At Les Auberges de Jeunesse, we, too, believe in the power of connections, diversity, and the memories we create together. And sometimes, all it takes is sitting down around a table, dealing a few cards… and starting to play.
